2024: Breakthroughs that redefined our digital future

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT)

A message from the Director

While others like to predict the future, we're building it.

Technology is changing faster than ever, and SnT stands at the intersection of possibility and impact. In 2024, our community of 500 brilliant minds transformed challenges into breakthroughs that are reshaping our digital future.

The numbers tell part of our story: 12 new research projects generating €8.8M, 20 EU-funded initiatives including a prestigious ERC Proof of Concept (POC), and several transformative partnerships with innovation leaders like Google Cloud, BGL BNP Paribas, and NTT.

But our true strength lies in collaboration – half our doctoral students collaborate directly with industry, creating a powerful synergy between academic discovery and real-world application.

The word interdisciplinary isn’t just in our name, it guides our work and sparked the launch of our EnergyLab. This testbed in Kirchberg combines real-world infrastructure with advanced research to support sustainable energy development.

As we look to 2025, we’re intensifying our focus on transforming the financial sector through FutureFinTech, while launching our Cyber Research Hub in response to an increasingly vulnerable digital landscape.

AI’s rapid expansion brings extraordinary opportunities- and real responsibility. Our researchers are making sure these systems are not only powerful, but also trustworthy and beneficial to society.

We’re not just creating new technologies; we’re shaping a more innovative, secure and sustainable future for everyone.
