EDUCATION

We attract doctoral candidates and academics to our centre from around the world, bringing top talent into the economy of Luxembourg.

Research projects with industry partners include funding for a dedicated doctoral candidate, who is both integrated at SnT as well as in the technical team of the partner organisation. This brings their skillset in house for the project’s duration, and allows for the research outcomes to be directly compatible in industry application. In time, researchers leave SnT, and thanks to their close relationships with industry partners, it is common to find them employed just down the road from our campus.

Training Talents for the Space Industry

Since the foundation of SnT, our researchers have been working hand in hand with the satellite industry and public space sector on innovative research projects. With NewSpace industry opportunities and partnerships emerging across the heart of Europe, our Centre has expanded and formalised these space competencies into an entirely new Master’s degree programme.

The Interdisciplinary Space Master (ISM) was developed in partnership with the Luxembourg Space Agency and is co-hosted by SnT, alongside the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine. With Luxembourg’s space sector already accounting for 2% of the country’s GDP, and opportunities growing every day, the ISM aims to generate a talent pool of professionals able to answer the needs of the sophisticated and innovative companies who choose the Grand Duchy as their base. It is an education that works hand in hand with the nation’s economic strategy for space

Training Talents for Cybersecurity

The University of Luxembourg together with the Université Bretagne Sud and Université Libre de Bruxelles have recently launched the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in cybersecurity (CYBERUS). This new Master programme will train a new generation of experts in cybersecurity. With cyber-attacks occurring increasingly across all sectors, professionals with the skills to defend individuals, companies, and governments from such threats are in exceptionally high demand.

Tegawende

“This Master is a testimony that the University of Luxembourg is focused on achieving its mission of delivering relevant talent to the evolving challenges that the Luxembourg and, even the European, economy and society are facing. By joining forces across three European countries, and with the support of the EU Commission through the Erasmus Programme, the Master will train highly-skilled future operatives and managers in the cybersecurity landscape,” comments Prof. Tegawendé Bissyandé, course director of the CYBERUS Master.

Training Talents for Technopreneurship

The Master in Technopreneurship (MTECH) at the University of Luxembourg is developed in partnership with the Institut luxembourgeois de la normalisation, de l’accréditation, de la sécurité et qualité des produits et services (ILNAS) and the Luxembourg Lifelong Learning Center (LLLC) of the Chambre des Salariés (CSL)Led by Prof. Pascal Bouvry and Dr. Grégoire Danoy, the Master MTECH is extremely innovative. On one hand, it provides students with a base of knowledge on topics reflecting current issues and those at the cutting edge of Smart ICT, and on the other hand, it serves as a catalyst for growth in the ICT Industry by offering practical examples and case studies illustrating the use of technical standardisation as a tool to give common technical language, build trust, and foster effectiveness in Smart ICT.

Bringing Research and Standardisation Closer Together in Luxembourg

ILNAS has been a partner of SnT since 2017, working on projects that are helping to identify standardisation needs, as well as new perspectives on those currently existing. Three doctoral researchers in SnT’s Parallel Computing and Optimisation (PCOG) research group are exploring some of the priority areas for the National Standardisation Strategy. Their work may also eventually contribute to the Master in Technopreneurship, which is led by the head of PCOG, Prof. Pascal Bouvry.
